چکیده

This paper reports the results of our use of Cavity Ring Down Spectroscopy to extend the study of highly excited vibrational states in HCN. We extend our previous study of the HCN isotopomer, reporting on some weaker bands between 17 500 and 19 500 cm. We also report spectra of overtone and combination bands with six, seven, and eight quanta of stretching vibration in the isotopomers HCN and HCN in the interval from 17 500 to 23 000 cm. The observed spectroscopic constants and band intensities are compared with calculated values. All but one of the observed bands can be fit to within experimental accuracy (;0.02 cm) to the standard distortable–rotor Hamiltonian. The one perturbed band has been successfully analyzed in terms of three anharmonically coupled levels. An anomalous line intensity distribution has been observed in the 115 and 016 P←S bands, which we believe is produced by Coriolis coupling. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

Ring-down cavity absorption spectroscopy of the very weak HCN overtone bands with six, seven, and eight stretching quanta

A nonstandard, high sensitivity, absorption detection technique has been applied to the investigation of the very weak fifth, sixth, and seventh overtones of HCN at 100 Torr and 296 K. The frequency range covered is from 17 500 to 23 000 cm-‘. We report high resolution, absolute absorption spectra with a noise equivalent sensitivity as low as 2 X 10m9/cm (recently improved to 7 X IO-“/cm). Band...

The Titan 14N/15N and 12C/13C isotopic ratios in HCN from Cassini/CIRS

We report the detection of H13CN and HC15N in mid-infrared spectra recorded by the Composite Infrared Spectrometer (CIRS) aboard Cassini, along with the determination of the 12C/13C and 14N/15N isotopic ratios. We analyzed two sets of limb spectra recorded near 13–15◦ S (Tb flyby) and 83◦ N (T4 flyby) at 0.5 cm−1 resolution. The spectral range 1210–1310 cm−1 was used to retrieve the temperature...

Detection of hydrogen cyanide from oral anaerobes by cavity ring down spectroscopy

Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) has been recognized as a potential biomarker for non-invasive diagnosis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in the lung. However, the oral cavity is a dominant production site for exhaled HCN and this contribution can mask the HCN generated in the lung. It is thus important to understand the sources of HCN production in the oral cavity. By screening of oral anaerobes for ...

Calculation of the Herman–Wallis effect in P–S vibrational overtone transitions in a linear molecule: Comparison with HCN experimental results

The high sensitivity of cavity ring-down spectroscopy has allowed us to observe a few perpendicular vibrational overtone transitions of HCN in the visible. These transitions display a sizable Herman– Wallis effect, that is an asymmetry in the relative intensities of the R and P branch lines. We have developed a theory for the first-order Herman–Wallis effect based upon using variational vibrati...

Line-mixing in the 106—000 overtone transition of HCN

By using cavity ring-down spectroscopy ~CRDS!, we have obtained visible overtone absorption spectra of HCN which display a large collisional line-mixing effect in the proximity of the R branch band heads, for J;18. We consider in detail the 106←000 ~15CN, 05bend, 65CH! parallel transition. The R branch profile was modeled using the modified-exponential-gap ~MEG! and energy-corrected-sudden appr...
